It is recommended that you purchase a new HClenz unit to replace the old unit once per year. Adhering to this replacement schedule will ensure that the water in your safety shower tank is always free from many different types of bacterium including Legionella Pneumophila. It is very important to keep safety shower water clean. According to ANSI Z358.1 2009, all safety showers must have potable water. In the event of an accident, a person who has sustained injuries, many of which may be open wounds, will be using the shower. Without using some sort of water purification system such as the HClenz, the affected person is much more likely to contract a disease or an infection.

To install a new HClenz filter, simply follow the instructions below:

Things you will need: New HClenz filter, a screwdriver, a ladder, a zip lock bag, and a zip tie.

You will need access to the inspection hatch on top of the shower. On our gravity-fed cubicle showers, the top of the shower is nearly 12 feet high, so you will need a ladder to reach the hatch. While using the ladder, make sure that a second person is holding the ladder steady.

When you have gained access to the inspection hatch, unscrew the four small screws on the inspection hatch lid. Place the screws in a small zip lock bag and label the bag.

Open the inspection hatch. If you are replacing an old HClenz fliter, be sure to remove the old filter before installing the new filter. You may need wire cutters or strong scissors to cut the zip tie that was used to fasten the old filter to the tank. Be sure the old zip tie doesn’t fall into the tank when you cut it.

When you have removed the old filter, locate the T-shaped section of piping inside the tank. There will be a small loop on one end of the HClenz filter. Put the zip tie through the loop on the HClenz, but don’t “zip” it. Take the ends of the zip tie and put one around each side of the T-shaped section of piping and then “zip” the tie until it is secure, but still slightly loose.

Close the inspection hatch lid. Take the four screws out of the labelled plastic bag and use them to refasten the inspection hatch lid. Be careful not to strip the screws. Tell your buddy who was holding the ladder steady that he is finally finished.
