Oil & Gas: Well, Completion and Salt Water Disposal Specialty Chemical Programs Experts in Slop Oil Demulsification and Salt Water Disposal

TOP PERFORMANCE

Oil and gas companies expect optimal performance, especially now with the recent decline in crude oil prices and rising business and operational costs. It’s more critical than ever to seek opportunities to reduce operational costs, resolve day-to-day processing issues and generate incremental revenue. ATS’s experts know how to separate oil from water, thus optimizing revenue from oil sales. All this is done while treating and disposing of wastewater safely and economically.

Our programs reduce your annual spend while squeezing as much oil as possible out of your production liquids and generating revenue.

ATS is a full-service chemical provider for slop oil treatment and demulsification, specializing in salt water disposal, completion and well chemical programs. We develop long-term relationships with our customers that reduce labor costs, increase production and provide additional revenue to your operation.

THE ATS DIFFERENCE

Part of what makes ATS successful is that we try to understand the entire process, including existing oil and brine water treatment equipment. We want to know the details about the chemicals currently in use and throughout the process. Our concerns are not only with the separation and extraction of oil for sale the overall long-term health of your injection well.

BUSINESS AND OPERATIONAL RESULTS

The ATS Cross-Functional Customized Facility (CFCF) Treatment Program is unlike any in the industry. Our entire process is focused on acquiring accurate historical data. We combine this data with chemistry-performance testing to get the best functional and cost-saving results our customers are looking to achieve. In other words, “good analytical data makes for good chemical treatment decisions.”

How ATS’s 8-Point Cross-Functional Customized Facility (CFCF) Treatment Program works:

  1. We start with a site survey to discover any processing/production issues the facility is experiencing and what results the customer is looking to achieve.
  1. Next ATS samples water, skim oil and slope oil to perform lab analysis to identify the characteristics of these solutions.
  1. We then evaluate optimal utilization of existing treatment equipment.
  1. Based on the critical CFCF data, we perform intensive lab bench-testing, and identify the most robust chemistries to improve the operation process window for each stage of the water- and oil-treatment processes.
  1. By evaluating incoming liquids, upstream/downstream operational processes, and equipment, we bench test and select chemistry that is synergistic and compatible with both pre- and post-treatment processes.
  1. After the desired chemistries including polymers are selected, we test them on-site within controlled dosing perimeters.
  1. We then collect and measure data while monitoring downstream effects from the process changes made, with the goal of achieving steady state process control.
  1. If required, we make necessary adjustments to dosing and treatment chemistry and dosing to create facility-specific optimal results.

REDUCE WASTE, IMPROVE YIELDS, AND INCREASE CAPACITY

ATS offers an extensive choice of coagulants, floc enhancers and polymers (cationic and anionic) in liquid or dry formats to deal with the complexities of solids found in produced waters and tightly bound slop oil or rag-layer emulsions.

Production water has particles smaller than 1.0 micron. These submicron particles, if suspended in water, can take from weeks to months to settle on their own because of their low density. Coagulants, enhancers and polymers use molecular weight and varying charges to aid in the collection of small submicron particles, forming larger, higher-density, and structurally stronger bundles allowing for faster and more effective solids separation.

Even if your emulsion has paraffin (black wax), ATS can extract even more oil out of your process—adding to your overall bottom line. ATS experts will select the strategic combination of demulsifiers, coagulants, polymers, and floc enhancers to separate the phases and remove the solids based on your equipment and facility design. Whether your separation process is using gravity, heat and time, filter press, screw press or a centrifuge, ATS will sample your emulsion and analyze it for a fast, efficient and customized treatment program, resulting in your facility’s best production output at a significantly lower cost.

CHOOSING THE CORRECT POLYMER

Polymers have greatly improved in recent years. Through on-going laboratory and real-world testing, ATS has the most effective selection of top-performing polymers. If you aren’t getting the performance you think is possible, then probably you have chosen the wrong polymer for your slop oil. You may also be using the wrong demulsifier to work in conjunction with your polymer. As industry experts, we are happy to conduct a free 8-Point CFCF treatment program to help you isolate and target your specific improvement needs.

CORROSION INHIBITORS

ATS offers customers a full chemical spectrum of corrosion-inhibitor products to deal with complicated problems for both produced waters and injection-well liquids. There are many corrosive components found in produced waters and hydrocarbon streams, including high chlorides, low pH, hydrogen sulfide, oxygen and carbon dioxide. The presence of these bad actors can cause damage to the steel piping, pumps and equipment it comes in contact with, resulting in failure. This includes production tubing all the way through to injection-well tubing. We offer corrosion inhibitors what will help protect your valuable equipment infrastructure.

SCALE INHIBITORS

ATS offers a complete line of scale-control products to deal with deposits of insoluble, inorganic scale from brine-production waters, which occur naturally. These inhibitors include calcium carbonate, sulfates, iron sulfides, strontium, and barium. Deposits will accumulate where there are changes in pH, pressure, flow, and temperatures. The material becomes insoluble and precipitates out of solution. This results in reduced flows and very costly batch treatments and even tubing, pipe and equipment failures, and need for replacement.

Identifying these compounds correctly is critical to choosing the treatment chemistry necessary to maintain a facility’s equipment and production flow.

BIOCIDES

Biocide products deal with the complicated issues surrounding the treatment of Sulfate Reducing Bacteria (SRB) and Acid Producing Bacteria (APB). These bacteria feed on naturally occurring iron sulfide as well as iron in piping, tanks, and equipment with the byproduct being H2S gas, both dissolved in solutions (oil and water), eventually breaking out into head spaces and areas where workers are exposed. This issue has resulted in serious injury and even death.

DEMULSIFIERS

Demulsification products deal with the complex problems of both produced waters and difficult, tightly bound, slop oil, or rag-layer emulsions. Choosing the right demulsifier for the type of emulsion you are trying to break or separate can greatly reduce operational cost. With thousands of different demulsifiers and combination products, many companies are either using the wrong demulsifier chemical family or are overdosing to try and extract the oil from the water more effectively. If you are turning tanker trucks away because your water or oil levels are too high, call ATS for a free evaluation.

PARAFFIN BLACK WAX AND ASPHALTENE TREATMENT

Temperature changes from down hole to surface allow paraffins to deposit and slow production flows. Asphaltenes are often confused with paraffins, and these compounds will accumulate in pressure, flow, and temperature reduction areas. Both paraffins and asphaltenes can reduce flow and result in very costly batch treatments and even cause tubing, pipe and equipment failures, resulting in costly replacements.

HYDROGEN AND OXYGEN SCAVENGERS

ATS has an extensive line of concentrated H2S scavengers and oxygen scavengers to deal with any problems causing environmental, health and safety concerns, and corrosion of expensive treatment equipment and plumbing.
